Een groepsrondreis of liever een individuele rondreis? Alles kan bij TUI tours!

16 weken geleden begon ik mijn stage bij één van de bekendste touroperators, namelijk TUI. Om specifiek te zijn liep ik stage in de afdeling TUI tours. Ikzelf had nog nooit gehoord van TUI tours en daarom was ik zo benieuwd naar wat deze stageplek en de tours afdeling mij allemaal te bieden had. Heb jij ook nog nooit gehoord van TUI tours en ben jij ook zo benieuwd zoals ik was? Lees dan zeker verder om te zien hoe mijn stageperiode verliep en hoe ik het allemaal heb ervaren.

Every Monday and Thursday between 09:00 and 09:30 I badge in the main TUI building in Zaventem. On floor 4, in addition to the tours department, there is also the cruises department. Here we, the product operations team, and the commercial team work together with the product managers. On other days, my team and I work from home.

In de product operations afdeling houden we ons bezig met het dossierbeheer voor groepsrondreizen en individuele rondreizen. Via deze link kan je een kijkje nemen naar wat we allemaal aanbieden qua rondreizen: TUI Tours.  

I start my workday by opening the mailbox. Every day we communicate with local agents from across the various destinations, tour guides, colleagues from the commercial team and the IATA team in Ostend. This requires fluent and clear communication and mastering the English language.

Daarnaast ben ik met mijn collega’s verantwoordelijk voor de opvolging van de rondreizen. Indien er reizen geannuleerd, garant of afgesloten moeten worden, moet dit op tijd gedaan worden. Indien er een reisleider meegaat op een reis moet er een reisleidersdossier opgesteld worden met daarin een begeleidende mail, e-tickets, kamerlijst, vouchers, het contract,…

To the clients, we also send travel documents such as an appointment letter, the hotel list and their voucher. For all these tasks, we mainly work with MS applications such as Excel, OneNote, Word and Teams. To retrieve the data of bookings and clients, we work with our booking system Nezasa.

Naast deze dagdagelijkse taken kreeg ik ook de opdracht om een nieuwe inspiratiepagina op te maken voor de brochure van de rondreizen 2024. Hiervoor heb ik natuurlijk met Canva gewerkt. Ik heb deze kort gepresenteerd aan mijn collega’s en mijn visie uitgelegd rekening houdend met de huisstijl van TUI. Daarnaast mocht ik ook teksten opmaken voor op de website en in de brochure van het dagprogramma voor verschillende bestemmingen. Voor het nieuwe evaluatieformulier moest ik enquêtevragen opstellen die ze later zullen meegeven met de klanten. We zijn ook een keer op bezoek geweest bij het ROC in Gent, dit is een externe bedrijf waarmee TUI samenwerkt voor het aanleveren van reisleiders.

Het leven van een ambtenaar in spe

Hallo allemaal! Ik ben blij dat ik de kans heb gehad om stage te lopen bij de Gemeente Grimbergen, specifiek op de dienst Toerisme. Gedurende mijn stageperiode heb ik niet alleen veel geleerd, maar ook een aantal leuke ervaringen opgedaan, zoals tijdens de Archeologiedagen die ik mee georganiseerd heb. In dit blogbericht wil ik graag mijn avonturen met jullie delen om jullie zo een kijkje te geven achter de schermen.

Mijn stage begon met een warm welkom op de dienst Toerisme van de Gemeente Grimbergen. Ik was direct onder de indruk van de vriendelijke en behulpzame collega’s die me met open armen ontvingen. Ik kreeg de kans om betrokken te zijn bij verschillende projecten en evenementen die de dienst organiseerde, waaronder de lokale Archeologiedagen en tal van andere activiteiten. In het begin was alles even wennen. Vergaderen en ontmoetingen met de lokale schepenen en zelf met de burgemeester was volkomen nieuw voor mij. Ik had ook totaal geen idee hoe lokale besturen nu juist werkten en hoeveel ze effectief organiseren voor hun burgers.

Mijn ontmoeting met de burgemeester vond ik bijzonder. Ik was vereerd om hem persoonlijk te spreken en zijn visie op toerisme en erfgoed te horen. Zijn enthousiasme en betrokkenheid waren inspirerend. Het was leuk om te zien hoe de burgemeester zich inzet voor Toerisme in zijn lokale gemeente.

Tijdens mijn stage kreeg ik ook de kans om enkele evenementen te organiseren, zoals de archeologiedagen. Het was leuk om betrokken te zijn bij de organisatie. Ik was verantwoordelijk voor  het promoten van deze evenementen die vooral gericht waren op het ontdekken van het rijke erfgoed dat Grimbergen te bieden heeft. Als je dan tijdens de evenementen zag dat deze steeds succesvol waren dan hield ik er toch een voldoen gevoel aan over.

Hierbij nog een leuke foto die ik nam en die in de krant verscheen omtrent de Archeologiedagen met de Schepen van Toerisme en enkele collega’s verkleed als jonkvrouwen uit de middeleeuwen. Misschien nog een leuk detail om te vertellen is dat we deze foto minstens 20 x opnieuw moesten nemen omdat we steeds moesten lachen vanwege onze grappige outfits en de setting van de foto.

Un autre projet intéressant sur lequel j’ai travaillé était le développement d’un parcours patrimonial via l’application “Erfgoedapp”. Cette application permet aux visiteurs d’explorer Grimbergen de manière interactive et informative. C’était chouette de voir comment mes idées (et celles de mes collègues) prenaient vie et comment j’ai pu contribuer à la promotion du patrimoine local. En travaillant sur ce projet, j’ai développé une passion pour le patrimoine local et sa valeur.

Mon stage au Service du Tourisme de la commune de Grimbergen a changé ma perception de l’importance du tourisme. J’ai non seulement acquis une précieuse expérience professionnelle, mais j’ai également connu une croissance personnelle. Je suis reconnaissant pour toutes les opportunités qui m’ont été offertes.

Welcome on board with Azores Experiences

It’s 8 o’ clock in the morning, we just had our coffee and Pedro is already on the phone with the lookouts. The spotters are sitting on land with their huge binoculars scanning the ocean surface for splashes, fins, shadows or any other sign of cetaceans of the Azores. Today we have a full boat with 14 tourists, which implicates that I will stay on land to cover the base.

Marta is halfweg haar briefing, die we dagelijks geven voor het vertrek, over de verschillende soorten walvisachtigen die we eventueel kunnen spotten tijdens de tocht. Plots onderbreekt Pedro haar, “I am sorry we have to leave, the lookouts just told me they have good information’. He gives his daily update about the sea “It’s ruff and bumpy, it will not be comfortable and we will get wet, but of course it is safe to go out”. So we provide everyone with waterproof jackets and pants and make them ready to leave.

Één vrouw is geblesseerd aan haar been, dus besluit niet mee te komen omdat de zee te wild is. Dat wil zeggen dat ik toch mee kan op de boot. Even twijfel ik en zeg ik “nee ik zal wel hier blijven, iemand moet de base open houden”. Maar plots komt Marta in mijn oor fluisteren “Rani, we may have information about 2 Orcas”. Mijn twijfel valt direct weg, ik pak mijn spullen en ren richting de boot.

Risso, onze zodiac boot, vaart rustig de haven van Horta uit. Ondertussen zit ik hier al bijna 3 maand dus ken ik mijn taken aan boord. Ik bereid de datasheet voor, zet de gps aan en leg de gopro klaar. Na een half uurtje varen zie ik Pedro een subtiel cirkelgebaar maken met zijn vinger, dit wil zeggen dat we aangekomen zijn in de area van de walvissen en we extra moeten rondkijken. Marta probeert al heel de tocht haar enthousiasme te verbergen, maar met het idee dat ze haar lievelingsdieren zal zien vandaag, is dit niet gemakkelijk.

I hear her screaming “9 o’ clock”, and all the heads of the people on board move to the left. And yes, I see it as well, a group of Orcas are surfing next to our boat. After watching the Orcas for a while, we leave to look for some Sperm whales.  Pedro puts as he calls it “the employer of the month” or also known as the Hydrophone into the water. With this we can listen to the Sperm whales and try to localise  them. And yet again, the hydrophone is not letting us down, shortly thereafter we see the fluke of a Sperm whale.

Drie uur later zetten we voet op land, met een tevreden crew en toeristen met een big smile. We verwennen onze klanten met een koekje en een typisch drankje van Pico en praten na over de geweldige trip.  “Muito obrigado, e até logo”

Hallo allemaal mijn naam is Valerie en ik ben momenteel op stage in Madrid. Momenteel zit ik in mijn voorlaatste week stage en ik vind het hier nog steeds fantastisch. If you ever come to Madrid on vacation or will do your internship here I definitely recommend the neighborhood La Latina in the center, it is a fantastic neighborhood with a big market in front of your door every Sunday full of hippie and second hand clothes.

But now let me tell you about my internship. The first week I was here I already had the chance to go with my work to the beautiful famous castle ‘Castillo de Viñuelas, daar vond een diner plaats vol internationale mensen van over heel de wereld. I got to walk around with them and see how everything was going, and I also had the chance to eat with the staff we hire to keep the event running smoothly. We kregen een mooiere plek dan waar het diner van de business mensen plaatsvond, lucky me. Maar voor dit alles ben ik eerst met mijn collega mee gegaan naar het Marriott hotel waar de internationale mensen van het bedrijf een bespreking hadden in een van de congress zalen. Then we made sure that all the people got on the buses properly and then we drove to the castle with the bus. What a wonderful evening.

Oke, nu naar het echte werk op de werkplek zelf. Dat is eigelijk heel de dag computer werk, de eerste paar weken was ik bezig met nieuwe powerpoint maken voor de ‘restaurants’, ‘venues’ en ‘activiteiten’ die wij aanbieden en het verbeteren van de engelse teksten van die powerpoints. Dit was een beetje saai maar tussendoor mocht ik wel soms een grote verantwoordelijke taak volbrengen, de prijzen van de facturen in ons programma ingeven. I also had to find new suppliers who might be potential for our next event, I had to contact them by phone and email. It was a very nice task to look for new suppliers myself. De volgende drie maanden mocht ik meer meewerken aan projecten en meegaan naar events. Het werk is sommige dagen hetzelfde maar andere dagen weer heel variërend. Je krijgt elke dag nieuwe taken van de collega’s en ik had ook de kans om zelf een powerpoint presentatie te maken voor de Amerikaanse markt.

WAH event in IFEMA gebouw met het werk

Tijdens mijn eerste maand had ik de kans om mee te gaan als vip naar WAH dat doorgaat in het IFEMA gebouw. Dit was een show dat volledig rond muziek draaiden. Onze collega had daar in maart een grote groep binnen gekregen en daarvoor waren we uitgenodigd door de organisatie van WAH zelf. We kregen zelfs de beste tafels die er waren. Die avond ga ik nooit vergeten, dit was de beste show die ik in heel mijn leven gezien heb, onbeschrijfelijk.

We have now come to my penultimate week of internship, and it has flown by. Which is a very good sign. I really recommend Madrid to do your internship, the city is so beautiful. Ik ga met spijt naar huis.

“Tui Team North on Catamaran”

Hola, Buenas! I’m Zeynep, student in the third year of Tourism and Leisure Management and I did a 4 month internship with Tui as a hotel rep in Mallorca. In this blog post, I’ll give an insight into how I experienced my internship with Tui Abroad and what I learned from it.

Tui is one of the biggest and leading travel organisation operator of Europe and it stands for Travel, Unique and Inspiring. 

The best part of this job is when you look at my instagram you would think I am on vacation all season. To be honest little yes and little no. I often hear from friends “what a great job, you are always on vacation”. They don’t realize how patient you have to be when engaging with tourists. Supporting something you actually have no control over and many stressful situations. A small example is that we have 1.5 days off, which is not always “off” because you still have to do something for work. Of course you have many choices when planning your day off such as going on unlimited excursions, exploring the island, meeting new people, cleaning up your apartment or maybe resting? For me, the choice is simple and the result is eternal fatigue?.

Başından beri bağımsız çalışabildiğim ve çok güvenildiğim için çok şey öğrendim. Sanırım staj yapmak için kendime daha uygun bir organizasyon seçemezdim: bazen alışılmadık çalışma şekli, bağımsızlık, anlayış ve positif zihniyet. 

Stajım sırasında yeni insanlarla ilişkiler kurdum, tüm yaşam ortamım değişiyor ama aynı zamanda doğum günleri, düğünler aile ve arkadaşlarımın hayatındaki önemli olayları kaçırdım. Ama evet, bu güzel adada staj yapmak, yeni kültürleri keşfetmek ve yeni seyler ögrenmek bu işin getirdiği rahatsızlığı gideriyor. Sonunda buna değer olduğunu kalbimin derinliklerinden söyleyebilirim. bir ömür boyu yanımda taşıyacağım bir deneyim. 

My apprenticeship with TUI was a personal investment for my individual development. In summary, I can say that the time in Mallorca was incredibly valuable for me, because in addition to my daily work as a hotel representative, I made inspiring contacts, got to know other cultures, improved my language skills and benefitted from a better quality of life.

My name is Ines, I am doing a 16 week internship at Aviapartner at Zaventem airport. I would like to take you into the daily life of a loadmaster.

Elke dag neem ik de trein vanuit Brussel naar de luchthaven. Iedere keer bij het aankomen in de aankomsthal krijg ik een instant vakantiegevoel. Collega’s zeiden dat dit gevoel maar enkele dagen zal blijven, maar na 16 weken is dit gevoel nog geen enkele keer weggegaan. Luchtvaart is nu eenmaal mijn passie, ik voel me nergens gelukkiger als op de luchthaven.

A loadmaster’s workday always looks different. Sometimes I have 3 flights in one day but sometimes I have 6 flights. But what is the task of a loadmaster?

Eerst en vooral moet je je vlucht opzoeken en de nodige papieren meenemen want dit is bij elke maatschappij anders. Je rijdt met een kleine auto naar de gate waar je samen met de ploeg wacht op het vliegtuig. Eenmaal het vliegtuig tot stand komt, moet je de brug tegen het toestel parkeren. Dit was in het begin zeer stresserend want je kan een vliegtuig zwaar beschadigen. Als loadmaster hou je je zowel bezig met het laden van bagages en cargo als met de boarding van de passagiers.

Aviapartner werkt samen met verschillende luchtvaartmaatschappijen zoals TUI, Ethiad, Vueling, Lufthansa, Ryanair en zoveel meer. Dit maakt de job dan ook boeiend aangezien je elke keer met een andere maatschappij werkt. Nooit is je vlucht hetzelfde, ik heb zo al de zotste dieren mogen inladen zoals papegaaien, bijen en geiten. Ik heb al in verschillende talen moeten communiceren in de cockpit met de piloten en heb zowel al gelukkige als boze passagiers gehad.

Working as a loadmaster on the tarmac between the planes feels like a vacation but also brings a lot of stress. Every day I come into contact with so many different nationalities, languages, destinations, cabin crew, companies… Every day is a new story.

Friends or colleagues…who knows?

Because of COVID the offer of internships wasn’t very big this school year. Originally I really wanted to go abroad, so I was very disappointed that there was nothing that interested me. After looking carefully at every offer, there was only one firm that fully caught my eye: CLIP Taalvakanties. 

Tijdens mijn sollicitatiegesprek had ik direct een goed gevoel. Mijn potentiële stagebegeleider was zeer vriendelijk en warm en het kantoor zag er superleuk uit om te werken. Wanneer ik te horen kreeg dat ik aangenomen was, voelde ik mij dan ook super opgelucht en blij. 

There was a little detail I forgot about though… the distance. Every morning AND evening 2 hours on my way… I didn’t think this through. Because of the working hours (9h – 18h) I would have had to get up early and I would have been at home very late every day.  Fortunately, Heidi, the boss, had a dorm available for me to stay in for free. So… my adventure could start without any worries!

Het warme gevoel dat ik kreeg tijdens mijn sollicitatiegesprek, kwam onmiddellijk terug toen ik mijn eerste (en alle andere) werkdag(en) had. De collega’s waren vriendelijk en ik heb nooit het gevoel gehad dat ik een buitenstaander ben. Bij CLIP hechten ze veel waarde aan het familiegevoel, wat het voor mij ook makkelijker maakte om mij thuis te voelen. 

Every day two people cook together and everybody eats together. When the weather is nice, we even sit outside in the garden with a nice view on the cows. It’s the perfect moment to get a little tan ? Because you have to cook with someone once in a while, you get the chance to make a nice, little conversation and get to know the person. It’s the same when everyone is eating together. There are several conversations going on and sometimes you have the feeling you’re having a nice meal with friends instead of being at work. 

Het takenpakket is zeer gevarieerd. Ik heb bijvoorbeeld vouchers moeten aanmaken voor de schoolreizen die aankwamen, metrotickets moeten klaarleggen, teksten schrijven voor de website en magazine, buspassen in orde moeten brengen, hotels en busmaatschappijen moeten contacteren omtrent beschikbaarheden voor het volgende schooljaar. en offertes maken Zoals je ziet: zeer gevarieerd dus. Het is een fijne afwisseling tussen administratief en logistiek. Soms moest ik ook “simpelere” taakjes doen, zoals mapjes klaar steken om mee te nemen op excursie, maar die waren even belangrijk als de andere dingen. 

If you are nervous for your first internship, I would certainly suggest to do it at CLIP. They are very patient and friendly. Take it from someone who is very insecure, you will find your place here.

Environnement

Pour commencer il est important d´atterrir dans un environnement ou vous vous sentez bien et chez Emirates c’est totalement le cas. L’équipe fait tout pour qu’on se sente à l’aise dès le début. Même si on est des stagiaires, durant 4 mois ils font le maximum pour intégrer le/la stagiaire en donnant pleins d’opportunités et en nous faisant totalement confiance. Cela m’a fait sentir comme une employée a part entière. C’est une équipe qui est à l’image du produit qu’ils vendent. Ils ne ménagent pas leurs efforts pour livrer le meilleur des services aux clients. Ceci a aussi quelque chose de très motivant pour le/la stagiaire.

With Emirates you have the chance to learn a lot in a short period of time. You take a place in the team as a Group Sales Agent, but the internship is not just about the groups, it’s much more than that. We are given the chance to get to know the other departments by taking part in various projects, such as coordinating events, writing newsletters, making a leaflet for the sales blitz or taking part at events such as roadshows where you meet the travel agents we communicate with every day.

I also had the chance to spend a day at the SkyCargo to see how the goods are shipped.

I went as well to the airport where we followed the whole process from check-in to boarding. We had the opportunity to walk around the tarmac, meet the crew and visit the whole plane.

How to stay funkey at home

Hoi! Ik ben Naomi en ik ben studente toerisme & recreatie management in het tweede jaar van de Erasmushogeschool in Brussel. Dit blogbericht gaat over mijn stageperiode bij Funkey. hoe ik het aangepakt en beleefd heb


Het zoeken naar een stageplaats tijdens corona was voor niemand evident.
Na een helse zoektocht heb ik dan toch een plek gevonden dat enigszins bij mijn profiel past. Ondanks ik niet de stage kon lopen die ik graag had willen lopen, was ik toch content van mijn keuze en aangenaam verrast.

The company I am interning for is mainly involved in offering activities and teambuilding events for both groups of individuals and companies. Funkey’s platform has a database of leads with very diverse requirements. For example, you can spend an afternoon laser pigeon shooting or you can follow an evening cocktail workshop. In short, there is a place for all tastes and this is what made it fun for me because of the variation of my internship.


Ik heb een uitgebreid takenpakket gekregen waarvan ik kennis kon maken in met elk alle drie departementen van Funkey. Ik kreeg de kans om bij te staan bij de marketingsafdeling waar ik mee kon denken over campagnes en waar ik mee de verantwoordelijkheid kreeg over de communicatie zijde van de sociale media. Bij de sales afdeling mocht ik meehelpen offertes opmaken en het opvolgen van deals en facturen.

I have also mastered various Internet programs such as Team Leader and WordPress, and I gained extensive knowledge of Indesign and Adobe Reader by helping to design infofiches on a daily basis

Ondanks ik grotendeels mijn stage van thuis heb mogen uitvoeren, vond ik dit niet echt heel erg aangezien ik veel in contact stond met mijn collega’s en mijn mede stagiaires waardoor de communicatie heel vlot liep.

As an intern, I got a lot of responsibility and this gave me the feeling that I am a real asset within the company. I can honestly say that I really got to know myself during my internship and that this period led to great professional growth.

Beethoven op de maan

The long awaited internship, turned out a bit differently than we all expected. 2020 has somehow been a good year for me, except maybe my name is a bit unfortunate these days. Because I’m so passionate about classical music, it wasn’t a difficult choice for me to complete my internship at The Festival of Flanders Mechelen/Kempen. Every year this incredible team organizes two festivals for classical music: Lunalia and Musica Divina.

Een van de hoogtepunten was zonder twijfel het ‘Hoogste Beethovenconcert’, dat begin maart plaats vond. Dit jaar wordt er 250 jaar Beethoven gevierd, en ook het programma van Lunalia zou dit jaar ‘Beethoven op de maan’ geweest zijn. Het hoogste Beethovenconcert was al een waanzinnig voorproefje met Stokman & Vos. Het concert ging door, boven in de Sint-Romboutstoren in Mechelen en waren ongeveer zo een 500 trappen omhoog. 

Unfortunately after two weeks we decided to work from home, as corona became more serious. A few weeks later there was no other option but to cancel Lunalia 2020. No ‘Beethoven op de maan’. Working from home was everything but easy, distraction is everywhere. I found it incredibly difficult to find balance between work and home. I had to teach myself a new structure, and believe me, structure is not my talent. But, I don’t see this quarantaine necessarily as something negative. Being at home obligates you to take time for yourself, and do things you want to do. Maybe I came out of this quarantaine a bit too relaxed.

Hoe veel deugd ik ook aan de quarantaine heb gehad, ik was dolblij om terug naar Mechelen te gaan. Het was half mei ongeveer dat we terug drie dagen in de week op het kantoor mochten werken, waar ik natuurlijk dolgelukkig om was. Musica Divina komt ondertussen ook dichter bij en de voorbereidingen zijn volop aan de gang. Dit jaar heeft Musica Divina toevallig een toepasselijk motto, ‘Zuurstof voor de Ziel’.

Every day I get to the office with a smile on my face and I’m thankful I get to stay a few weeks longer. I didn’t just learn about production, I discovered so many new artists, ensembles and music. I’ve been able to do something I would love to do in the future. To sum up, this internship has been nothing else but an amazing experience.
