In this blogpost, I would like to tell all of you about the amazing time that I am having right now, interning in the beautiful Ireland. This is already my second internship here at EazyCity Dublin, an accommodation agency (and actually so much more…) located in the heart of Dublin City.
Vorig jaar koos ik ervoor om 3 maanden te vertoeven in dit pittoreske stadje en dit jaar – voor mijn tweede stage – kwamen daar nog eens vier maanden bij. Ik bleek maar niet genoeg te krijgen van dit bedrijf en deze wondermooie hoofdstad.
Tijdens mijn eerste stage was alles zeer nieuw voor mij. Een doordeweekse dag bestond uit het beantwoorden van e-mails, het updaten van de verschillende excel-bestanden en het uitvoeren van check-ins en -outs in de verschillende accommodaties.
De klanten kwamen van overal ter wereld en dat gaf dan ook direct de kans om alle talen die we in onze opleiding geleerd hadden, toe te passen in het echte leven. Na enkele weken, voelde ik me echt thuis in mijn taken en voelde ik me ook reeds deel van de “EazyCity Family”. Het was echt een geslaagde stage!
After an emotional goodbye at the office, I went back to Belgium to finish up my third year. After a few brutal months, I passed all of my exams and – together with my thesis group – we managed to deliver our thesis on time.
During these six months in Belgium, I was still very much in contact with all my colleagues and friends in Ireland. They were all missing me and wanted me to come back so I decided, “Why not do my second internship there as well?” The company promised to give me more responsibilities and after six months, I was on the first Ryanair (*not sponsored unfortunately*) flight back to Dublin.
I was really happy to be back, surrounded by my friends and colleagues and I was enjoying the new responsibilities given to me as well. For this internship they decided to put me in charge of looking after the “Rent File” and making sure that everyone pays on time. As well as looking after some minor maintenance issues and being the point of reference for Brazilian agencies and Brazilian clients.
Ook mocht ik de nieuwe stagiaires trainen voor hun functies. Drie maanden ging dit zo voort en waren mijn dagen zeer goed gevuld. Na deze drie maanden, kwam dan het droevige (maar voor mij ook wel goede) nieuws dat de huidige Assistant Manager haar opzeg had gegeven en mij aangeraden had als haar opvolging. De volgende dag kreeg ik de email van HR dat ik mijn motivatiebrief en CV mocht doorsturen en de dag daarna had ik mijn sollicitatiegesprek.
De daaropvolgende week was zenuwslopend en plots kreeg ik een belletje dat ze mij de perfecte kandidaat vonden voor de job en dat, na mijn stageperiode, mijn contract direct kon beginnen. Ik was zeer vereerd en blij met deze kans en heb deze dan ook meteen aangenomen.
The day after, my training to become the next Assistant Manager started. I find these new responsibilities and tasks very fascinating and I’m really happy that I can stay in Dublin longer than expected.
As from next week, I can officially call myself the new Assistant Branch Manager of EazyCity Dublin and I’m truly grateful to the Erasmushogeschool for giving me the opportunity of doing TWO internships here and giving me all the skills needed to succeed in this new challenge. Thereby giving me a big head start career wise.
