Een groepsrondreis of liever een individuele rondreis? Alles kan bij TUI tours!

16 weken geleden begon ik mijn stage bij één van de bekendste touroperators, namelijk TUI. Om specifiek te zijn liep ik stage in de afdeling TUI tours. Ikzelf had nog nooit gehoord van TUI tours en daarom was ik zo benieuwd naar wat deze stageplek en de tours afdeling mij allemaal te bieden had. Heb jij ook nog nooit gehoord van TUI tours en ben jij ook zo benieuwd zoals ik was? Lees dan zeker verder om te zien hoe mijn stageperiode verliep en hoe ik het allemaal heb ervaren.

Every Monday and Thursday between 09:00 and 09:30 I badge in the main TUI building in Zaventem. On floor 4, in addition to the tours department, there is also the cruises department. Here we, the product operations team, and the commercial team work together with the product managers. On other days, my team and I work from home.

In de product operations afdeling houden we ons bezig met het dossierbeheer voor groepsrondreizen en individuele rondreizen. Via deze link kan je een kijkje nemen naar wat we allemaal aanbieden qua rondreizen: TUI Tours.

I start my workday by opening the mailbox. Every day we communicate with local agents from across the various destinations, tour guides, colleagues from the commercial team and the IATA team in Ostend. This requires fluent and clear communication and mastering the English language.

Daarnaast ben ik met mijn collega’s verantwoordelijk voor de opvolging van de rondreizen. Indien er reizen geannuleerd, garant of afgesloten moeten worden, moet dit op tijd gedaan worden. Indien er een reisleider meegaat op een reis moet er een reisleidersdossier opgesteld worden met daarin een begeleidende mail, e-tickets, kamerlijst, vouchers, het contract,…

To the clients, we also send travel documents such as an appointment letter, the hotel list and their voucher. For all these tasks, we mainly work with MS applications such as Excel, OneNote, Word and Teams. To retrieve the data of bookings and clients, we work with our booking system Nezasa.

Naast deze dagdagelijkse taken kreeg ik ook de opdracht om een nieuwe inspiratiepagina op te maken voor de brochure van de rondreizen 2024. Hiervoor heb ik natuurlijk met Canva gewerkt. Ik heb deze kort gepresenteerd aan mijn collega’s en mijn visie uitgelegd rekening houdend met de huisstijl van TUI. Daarnaast mocht ik ook teksten opmaken voor op de website en in de brochure van het dagprogramma voor verschillende bestemmingen. Voor het nieuwe evaluatieformulier moest ik enquêtevragen opstellen die ze later zullen meegeven met de klanten. We zijn ook een keer op bezoek geweest bij het ROC in Gent, dit is een externe bedrijf waarmee TUI samenwerkt voor het aanleveren van reisleiders.

So it is not always the day-to-day administrative tasks but you can also let your creative side come out in terms of text and images. In addition, I worked with a close top team where there was laughter every day.

“Przewodnik po Porto” (Pools voor: “Tour door Porto”) – mijn gids door mijn buitenlandse stage.

Olá, Bom dia!

One of my first words that I already knew before landing in Porto. I started this internship hesitantly. But afterwards it turned out to be one of the best experiences.

I was introduced to the company of Dorota, my supervisor. Born and raised in Poland, completed her internship in Porto and years later started her own one-man business. And I got to experience all the ‘insides’ she experiences. For several weeks I followed her around when she did her tours as a guide. In this way, I learnt a piece of the history of Porto and its surroundings as well as Portuguese culture.

Po kilku tygodniach przyszła kolej na mnie by głównie polskim turystom przedstawić piękne miasto Porto. Każdego dnia miło mi, gdy było patrzyłam na zadowolone twarze turystów cieszących się pięknymi widokami, portugalską kulturą etc.

The excellent local products like for example sardines, cheese and world-famous wine Porto should not be forgotten. During the tours, tourists get the chance to taste delicacies, which often put an extra beautiful smile on their faces.

Besides my experience as a guide in Porto, I was also responsible for a number of administrative tasks in the office. So I answered e-mails, arranged trips to further destinations, e.g. to Fatima, the Douro valley and much more. I was also entrusted with the ‘social media’ section and in charge of all promotions, videos, photos online, which I certainly enjoyed doing. I also got to discover another side of the tourism world, namely preparation and check-in of tourists at destination sites.

Staż w Porto wiele nauczył mnie o pracy przewodnika. Wzbogaciłam się o nowe życiowe doświadczenia. Poznałam między innymi słynne miasto Porto nie tylko oczami turysty, zwiedziłam wiele zabytków oraz widziałam miejsca, które nie są wymieniane w przewodnikach. Udowodniłam sobie, że potrafię posługiwać się kilkoma językami obcymi.

I recommend all tourism students to choose a place for your internship outside our little Belgium. It will certainly enrich your experience and pay off in the future.

Welcome back Porto

ESN Porto of voluit Erasmus Student Network is een organisatie die zich bezighoudt met de Erasmus studenten in de stad. Vandaag vertel ik jullie iets meer over wat ze exact doen in de prachtige stad Porto.

“Gdy znalazłam się w Porto nigdy się nie spodziewałam jak bardzo to miasto i jego mieszkańcy mnie zmienia.”. It’s almost one year ago since I wrote these words on the end of my other work experience in Porto. After spending 11 months on an Erasmus Exchange in Porto, I knew that this was my place on earth and that I will return. I just didn’t know that it will happen so quickly.

Toen ik terugkwam in België kampte ik met de ‘post-Erasmus depression’. Alles was opeens anders, ik voelde totaal niet meer thuis in het land waar ik opgroeide en alles had. Snel had ik de beslissing genomen dat ik terug moet naar mijn vertrouwde Porto. Ik bekeek het aanbod van de stages en ik had onmiddellijk door dat ik totaal niet weet wat ik na mijn studies wil doen, of ik zelfs in de toeristische sector wil werken. Nadat ik te weten ben gekomen dat ik mijn stage kan doen bij Erasmus Student Network Porto was mijn keuze snel gemaakt.

Erasmus Student Network or in short ESN is a non-profit student association and is one of the biggest ones in Europe. Since 1989 many volunteers have helped massive number of international students to feel at home in the country of their exchange. ESN Porto is one of the 13 sections in Portugal. They organize activities for the students such as parties, trips, and events. Their motto is ‘students helping students’, and this is exactly what ESN is, a bunch of students that want to give their help to other students enjoy their time in their city.

Todos os dias são diferentes, às 14h vou para o escritório onde começo o dia. Primeiro conto o dinheiro que está em caixa e por volta das 14h30 abrimos o escritório e começam a chegar os alunos. Tanto no início como no final do semestre muitos alunos querem fazer um cartão de Erasmus, e sou eu que tenho de fazer estes cartões. O essencial é verificar se todas as informações estão corretas e depois escrevê-las no cartão. Alguns alunos ligam com perguntas enquanto outros vão ao escritório ou mandam e-mails. A tarefa mais importante do meu trabalho é ajudar os alunos e fazer com que estes se sintam em casa.

Nu is mijn avontuur bij ESN Porto geëindigd, maar ik kan met zekerheid zeggen dat hier een nieuwe Lidia is geboren. Deze stage leerde mij een nieuwe blik te hebben op het leven en de toekomst. Ik zag dat ik niet moet rennen door het leven maar moet genieten van die kleine dingen die je alleen kan opmerken wanneer je niet rent voor de bus (die toch paar minuten te laat zal zijn). Na mijn Erasmus uitwisseling zei ik tegen mijn moeder: “Porto stało się moim drugim domem, do którego na pewno często będę wracać.”, maar nu kan ik met zekerheid zeggen dat Porto echt mijn nieuw thuis is en ik af en toe terug zal komen naar mijn oude thuis, in Gent.

Koude wind, warme sfeer aan zee

Beste lezer, je vraagt je misschien af hoe het is om stage te lopen bij Center Parcs De Haan.

Ik loop hier stage van 24 april 2023 tot 26 juni 2023. De tijd vliegt hier en ik ben aan het einde van mijn 5e week en ik heb het gevoel dat ik hier pas 2 weken ben.

As an intern here, you are warmly welcomed by regular employees who train you until you become independent and help you grow as a person. It felt good here right away, the people here are very warm and supportive. Even if you have something on your mind, you will find ears to listen here.

I feel that I was able to grow here and learn to work more professionally. Because the work here is varied and every day is different, I don’t get bored here. You must be flexible and willing to work weekends. Some days you can start at 8 a.m. and other days at 3 p.m. It often happens that you must work on Sundays. Keep that in mind!

Als stagiair is het mijn taak om gasten te verwelkomen, in te checken, te helpen met problemen en hun vragen te beantwoorden. Maandag en vrijdag zijn incheckdagen en jij bent het gezicht van het park, de eerste indruk die je maakt op je gasten. Hier moet je dus veel glimlachen en vriendelijk zijn, ook in verschillende talen kunnen uitleggen wat, wanneer en hoe.

De rest van de week sta je bij de informatiebalie of bij de fietsverhuur. Taalvaardigheid komt goed van pas bij de informatiebalie, waar gasten vragen kunnen stellen, klachten kunnen doorgeven en activiteiten kunnen boeken. Je moet ze kunnen laten zien dat je hun frustratie snapt en ze zo goed mogelijk wilt helpen. Aan de cycle center moet je fietsen verhuren. Hier is geen fietskennis vereist, als stagiair ben je er gewoon als verkoopster. There is always someone present with knowledge of bicycles who can answer all bicycle-related questions. Usually people ask the same questions, so after a while, you can answer them too.

My personal experience at Center Parcs De Haan was pretty good. The work goes well, most of the colleagues are great and most importantly, you definitely get the space to learn and grow here.

In Plein Publiek, you can expect anything!

In deze blogpost deel ik mijn ervaring van mijn eerste stage. Het was een fantastische stage boordevol variatie en leuke mensen!

De combinatie van veel daglicht, prachtige planten, de geur van Libanese keuken en de bruisende sfeer door de multiculturele achtergrond van de medewerkers maakten me meteen enthousiast om negen weken aan de slag te gaan als stagiaire.

I had the opportunity to do my very first internship ever at Plein Publiek. Plein Publiek is a modern, hip place in the heart of Brussels located on Mont des Arts and by now well known to most Brussels residents. They have a bar & restaurant service, Nightlife on Fridays and Saturdays, an expo by Studio Irma and they rent out two unique rooms for private events. It’s an impressive place.

Ze hebben van een historisch gebouw, Palais De la Dynastie, een unieke plek gemaakt door een serre in het gebouw te zetten. In deze serre is de bar, het restaurant en het is ook een plek die afgehuurd kan worden voor privé evenementen. En in deze serre mocht ik de afgelopen weken werken voor de stage.

All staff in Square Public know each other; they are not only colleagues but also friends. There is a very wide variation in cultural backgrounds because many international students work there. Someone from the staff said to me “Plein Publiek is not only our work, it is also our Social Life.

Als stagiaire werd ik super goed opgevangen. Ik werkte in de serre, ook wel The Greenhouse genoemd, waardoor ik voortdurend contact had met iedereen. In Plein Publiek werk je niet alleen, je bent ieder moment in contact met de verschillende ‘afdelingen’ en dat is fantastisch! Zo heb ik de studenten, vaste medewerkers, managers, bazen en zelf de ontwerpster van de Happiness expo kunnen ontmoeten. Ik had bovendien ook nog de kans om naar Plein Publiek Antwerpen te gaan en het team daar te ontmoeten.

During my internship, I was given a lot of variety in the tasks I had to perform. Mainly I was busy with the administration and execution of private events but, as they put it themselves, “In Plein Publiek, you can expect anything” and so other tasks definitely come your way. For instance, sometimes unexpected service assistance or other logistical matters need to be taken care of.

Ik ben Plein Publiek Brussel heel dankbaar voor de fantastische stage vol variatie en kansen. Ik heb super leuke mensen leren kennen en zeer veel bijgeleerd over de eventsector.

Een stagedag bij Reizen de Postiljon.

Reizen de Postiljon is een zelfstandig reisbureau in Dilbeek met meer dan 30 jaar ervaring. Je komt in een klein team terecht en werkt samen met Valérie en Kristina. Naast de medewerkers komt Cosmo, een twee jaar oude Havanezer 2 keer per week mee naar het kantoor. Klanten kunnen in het kantoor langskomen voor pakketreizen, à la carte reizen en cruises.

L’éventail des tâches chez De Postillion est très varié. Vous pouvez avoir des tâches administratives telles que l’enregistrement de la banque dans le système et le traitement des factures d’achat, mais vous pouvez également établir des devis pour les clients et vérifier les documents de voyage. Chaque jour, vous découvrirez de nouvelles tâches. Il n’y a donc pas de place pour l’ennui. Chez De Postillion, vous pouvez également laisser libre cours à votre créativité sur les médias sociaux. L’idée est de créer de belles affiches pour attirer les clients.

Naast de verschillende taken bij de Postiljon krijg je ook de mogelijkheid om mee te gaan naar events. Ik heb tijdens mijn stage de kans gehad om naar een RIU lunch te gaan en een Palladium event. Tijdens zo een events krijg je allerlei informatie over hotels wat zeer leerrijk is. De presentaties worden gevolgd door een lekkere lunch of buffet. Om de avond af te sluiten kan je deelnemen aan een tombola om een reis te winnen.

Outre les événements, il y a aussi les famtrips. Les famtrips sont des voyages d’étude proposés par les fournisseurs. Cette année, j’ai eu la chance de participer à un voyage d’étude à Disneyland à Paris. Il s’agissait d’un voyage de deux jours avec plusieurs agents de voyage de Belgique. Ce fut une expérience inoubliable. Nous avons visité différents hôtels de Disneyland et nous avons déjeuné et dîné dans des restaurants célèbres de Disney, comme Walt’s.

Op zoek naar helende stemmen

Hallo allemaal, mijn naam is Julie en ik neem jullie graag mee naar een interessante werkdag als stagiaire communicatie en productie voor het stadsfestival LUNALIA & Musica Divina in Mechelen/de Kempen. Via deze blogpost wil ik jullie wat meer vertellen over wat er allemaal komt kijken bij het organiseren van een stadsfestival.

I have always been very integrated by theater, music and art. Along with my passion for travel and culture, I searched extensively for an internship that had all these elements. Through Erasmushogeschool’s internship database, I found ‘Festival van Vlaanderen Mechelen/Kempen’. Looking at the job descriptions, I immediately felt that this internship was for me.

Wie zijn ze? Festival van Vlaanderen is een organisatie die twee festivals organiseert, namelijk ‘Lunalia’ en ‘Musica Divina’. Het is een stadsfestival dat op zoek gaat naar artiesten die iets waarachtigs te vertellen hebben aan de hand van zingende en “helende” stemmen. De festivals krijgen elk jaar een ander thema en tijdens Lunalia (in Mechelen) heb ik de kans gekregen om grote namen te mogen ontmoeten binnen de wereld van klassieke muziek en hen bij te staan tijdens de concerten. Maar dat werd pas realiteit na weken van voorbereidingen, we zullen dus beginnen bij het begin!

Apart from the fact that my colleagues welcomed me incredibly kindly and warmly, my first tasks were a fact. I immediately went to work looking for volunteers for the festival and I soon learned how best to promote the festival through social media. Since I am not much into social media in daily life, this was a challenge. But who doesn’t like a challenge? 😉 in addition to social media, after a while I was also called in to write newsletters to potential visitors, help draw up schedules for the concerts and was in contact with various companies in Mechelen and the surrounding area to promote our Lunalia T-SHIRTS. So I was mainly in charge of communication within staff, sponsors and promotion. This especially increased my self-confidence within communication in writing and speaking language.

Oké, en nu voor echt! Het festival gaat van start. Samen met mede-stagiaires en collega’s stonden we drie weken klaar om de artiesten te ontvangen. Ik werd verantwoordelijk gesteld om de vrijwilligers te briefen en hen wegwijs te maken binnen het vrijwilligerswerk. Daarnaast stonden we stand-by voor praktische zaken tijdens de concerten, hielpen we mee de concertplaatsen op te bouwen en konden we (gratis) genieten van de optredens.

After three successful festival weeks, calm had returned for a while and we set to work for the Musica Divina festival taking place in the Kempen region. I am back in charge of volunteers, promotions and social media. This period I will have a little more responsibility within production. Once you know how the team and preparations work, it is not difficult to work independently. If you love music/art and have an organisational mind, GO FOR IT! You won’t regret it. 🙂

Reis rond de wereld in negen weken

De eerste stappen in het kantoor van het Reishuis.

Have you ever wondered what the duties of a travel agent are? Then you’ve come to the right place.

Ik ben in april mijn stage gestart voor een periode van 9 weken bij het reisbureau ‘Het Reishuis’. Hier werd ik met open armen verwelkomd door mijn collega’s. Maar wat houdt dat nu in een Travel Consultant zijn? Zoals de term zelf verwoordt is het de klant consulteren over zijn/geplande reis.

As a Travel Consultant you are the first point of contact with the customer, that means that you play a crucial role within the company. Because you have to ensure that the customer would book a trip. This is not the only assignment, there are many more. Usually the day starts with a talk with the colleagues and starting up the laptop. Then the working day commences by reading the mails.

Het takenpakket van een reisconsulent omvat het opmaken van bestelbonnen, versturen van reisdocumenten, offertes maken, telefoons en mails beantwoorden, manieren bedenken om de website aantrekkelijker te maken en deze ook implementeren en natuurlijk het fysieke contact met de klanten. Dat niet alleen, de bestanden bevatten vaak ook aanvullende taken zoals het boeken van luchthaventransfers of een huurauto. Maar om een reis overtuigend te verkopen, moet je over voldoende productkennis beschikken. Daarom maak je kennis met het aanbod van Het Reishuis a.d.h.v. brochures en de website.

I have been able to implement my interests in the website. On the website I have been able to write several texts about different destinations from South America, Africa to Asia. I learned a lot about countries that I had never thought of before. My view of the world has definitely expanded.

Guests go on vacation to enjoy and relax. To have a detox from their everyday life. It is up to us to give them an unforgettable holiday. By doing our tasks as precisely as possible, we are already making a small contribution for their vacation.

Mijn stage bij het Reishuis was een onvergetelijke ervaring, aangezien dit ook mijn eerste keer was om voor een langere periode te werken. Ik werd vanaf het begin tot einde met open armen ontvangen en de collega’s stonden altijd klaar om mij te helpen.

The great thing about Het Reishuis is that they don’t see you as an intern, but as a member of the team.

Een duik in de Wereld van evenementenplanning

Als studente toerisme en recreatiemanagement op de Erasmushogeschool kreeg ik de kans om stage te lopen bij To The Point Events, een evenementenbureau gevestigd in Hasselt.

In dit blogbericht wil ik graag mijn ervaringen delen en een kijkje achter de schermen geven van mijn stage.

Met een mix van opwinding en nervositeit maar vooral zin begon ik aan dit avontuur. Vanaf de eerste dag werd ik warm verwelkomd, mijn collega’s waren altijd bereid me te helpen met vragen, advies te geven of hun kennis te delen.

Gedurende mijn stageperiode kreeg ik de kans om de fascinerende wereld van evenementenplanning te verkennen en waardevolle vaardigheden op te doen. Ik werd betrokken bij verschillende aspecten van evenementenplanning. Mijn taken omvatten onder andere het assisteren bij het opstellen van plannen, meetings met de klant bijwonen, het onderzoeken van locaties, het coördineren van leveranciers en het ondersteunen van het team tijdens evenementen-dagen. Het leukste aan de stage vind ik hoe je de voorbereidingen van begin tot einde van dichtbij volgt en dan kan zien hoe alles samenvalt op de dag zelf. Ik was telkens enthousiast als ik mijn creativiteit de vrije loop kon laten gaan tijdens brainstormsessies, en al zeker als sommige van die ideeën enkele weken later dan gerealiseerd werden.

The internship took place at the right time because the period April-June are very busy months for the sector. This gave me the opportunity to experience many different types of events such as a rowing race, a family day of Uhasselt, the Livia award show, company party Dirix, a press conference, the 30th anniversary of Toyota and many more team building activities.

During the past months I have had the privilege of working with a fantastic team of colleagues. Sharing the same passion for events and striving for perfection brought us together and ensured that we had a lot of fun during production days. I learned something new every day and the combination of office work and on-site gave a good variety.

It was a very fun and busy period with long days, but one thing is for sure, I would do it again without hesitation !

Madrid and the Meetings Industry: the perfect match

Wereldvermaarde kunstmusea, stadswijken met elk hun eigen karakter, authentieke tapasbars, indrukwekkende flamencoshows, talloze uitgaansmogelijkheden, … Madrid is een stad die nooit slaapt. Ik had het genoegen om 16 weken in deze prachtige en veelzijdige stad te vertoeven én stage te lopen bij Cititravel DMC. Benieuwd naar mijn ervaring? Lees dan snel verder!

Cititravel DMC is a Destination Management Company specialized in organizing corporate events such as meetings, incentives and conferences. The company was elected ‘Spain’s Best MICE Organiser 2022’ by the voters of the World MICE Awards. I worked at the operations department as a project assistant and spent most of my time creating proposals for our clients, international event & meeting planners. A proposal consisted of two parts: a presentation including the event program and the different possibilities of venues, restaurants and hotels, and a quotation in Excel. Before I created any proposal, I contacted various local suppliers to see if they had availability. Once the proposal was sent to the clients, I had to keep in touch with them via e-mail and follow up on the file. The most interesting part about this job was that no two requests were the same. It ranged from incentives for 50 people to meetings for 750 people.

Hiernaast was ik verantwoordelijk voor het regelen van site inspections bij nieuwe hotels, venues en restaurants. De laatste jaren zijn er namelijk veel luxehotels en venues geopend in Madrid en is de stad een echte hotspot geworden om bedrijfsevenementen te organiseren. Madrid werd zelfs vorig jaar door de World Travel Awards verkozen tot ‘World’s Leading Meetings & Conference Destination’, en dat het vierde jaar op rij!

Without any doubt, coordinating events was the most fun part of my internship. I got the chance to assist at different events to ensure that everything ran smoothly. I was often given responsibilities such as briefing the guides, escorting guests to buses and so on.

Evenement voor farmaceutisch bedrijf bij Casino de Madrid

Mijn collega’s betrokken me bij elke fase van een evenement, namelijk de voorbereiding, uitvoering en ‘aftercare’. Na een aantal maanden heb je een goede kijk op hoe een evenement van A tot Z wordt georganiseerd en begin je de complexe wereld van de Meetings Industry te doorgronden. Aangezien lange werkdagen in deze sector niet uit te sluiten zijn, dien je flexibel te zijn. Maar niet getreurd: je krijgt er ook veel voor terug! Zo word je vaak als één van de eerste uitgenodigd om nieuwe trekpleisters gratis uit te proberen.

This internship not only made me realize that I am passionate about events, it also made me grow as a person. I am very grateful for everything I learned during this period and will always look back on this adventure with a smile.

Als je twijfelt om je stage in het buitenland te doen, luidt mijn advies als volgt: doe het gewoon en waag een sprong in het diepe! Je zal er zeker geen spijt van krijgen!
