Looking for an internship where no two days are the same? During my internship at Beursschouwburg in Brussels, I discovered what happens behind the scenes of a cultural venue and how important teamwork is in making events run smoothly.
Quand j’ai commencé mon stage à la Beursschouwburg, je ne savais pas exactement à quoi m’attendre. Très vite, j’ai compris que travailler dans un centre culturel est beaucoup plus varié qu’on ne l’imagine. Chaque événement est différent et demande une bonne organisation ainsi qu’une grande capacité d’adaptation.
One of the things I enjoyed most was being involved in the practical side of events. Whether it was helping with preparations, supporting the team during activities or making sure everything was running smoothly, I could see how every small task contributed to the visitor experience.
J’ai également appris à travailler dans un environnement dynamique où il faut parfois réagir rapidement aux changements. Cette expérience m’a permis de développer mon autonomie, mon sens des responsabilités et ma capacité à travailler sous pression.
One moment that I will never forget happened just before a performance. An artist needed assistance putting on her costume before going on stage. Since the costume was an important part of the artistic concept and left very little covered, it was definitely an unexpected situation for me as an intern. At first, I felt a bit uncomfortable, but I quickly realised that professionalism is essential in the cultural sector. My role was simply to help the artist feel ready for her performance and make sure everything could start on time.
Cette expérience m’a montré que travailler dans le secteur culturel signifie parfois sortir de sa zone de confort. Chaque journée peut apporter son lot de surprises, mais c’est aussi ce qui rend ce travail si intéressant. J’ai appris à rester professionnel dans toutes les situations et à m’adapter aux besoins des artistes et du publique.
What makes Beursschouwburg special is its creative atmosphere. You are surrounded by people who are passionate about theatre, art and music. As a TRM student, it is interesting to see how concepts from our courses are applied in a real professional setting.
La diversité du public et des événements est également très enrichissante. Travailler à Bruxelles signifie être en contact avec des personnes de différentes cultures et origines.
For me, this internship was a great opportunity to gain practical experience and discover another side of the tourism, recreation and events sector. It showed me that a successful event depends on much more than what visitors see on the day itself.
