Een dynamische reis bij Folks

Wil je weten hoe het is om stage te lopen bij een dynamisch evenementenbedrijf? Bij Folks in Schaarbeek heb ik de kans gekregen om in een enthousiast team te werken en elke dag iets nieuws te leren. Van het plannen en uitvoeren van evenementen tot het oplossen van onverwachte problemen op locatie, geen dag was hetzelfde. Deze ervaring heeft me waardevolle inzichten gegeven in de evenementenindustrie en ik raad deze stage zeker aan voor iedereen die op zoek is naar een uitdagende en veelzijdige leerervaring.

Tijdens mijn stage bij Folks in Schaarbeek, een bedrijf dat gespecialiseerd is in het organiseren van evenementen, heb ik een breed scala aan ervaringen opgedaan. I had the unique opportunity to work in a very dynamic team, where every day brought new challenges and learning opportunities. From assisting in the planning and execution of events to handling day-to-day administrative tasks, mijn rol was zeer gevarieerd, wat ik erg waardeerde.

Ik heb ook het voorrecht gehad om mee te gaan naar verschillende evenementen. Being inside the action gave me invaluable insights into the meticulous planning and coordination required to pull out successful events. Dit hands-on aspect van de stage was zowel spannend als leerzaam, en ik heb veel geleerd over tijdmanagement en probleemoplossing in real-time situaties.

Working in such a dynamic environment betekent dat geen enkele dag hetzelfde is. One moment we would be brainstorming creative ideas for upcoming events, and the next we might be dealing with logistical challenges. Deze variëteit houdt de job interessant en stimuleert continue groei en aanpassing. I particularly enjoy this aspect because it keeps me on my toes and ensures that I am always learning.

Het team bij Folks is een geweldige mix van professionals die hard werken maar ook weten hoe ze plezier moeten maken. There are moments filled with laughter and camaraderie, which make the workplace environment very enjoyable. However, when the situation demands, everyone is ready to buckle down and focus on the task at hand. Deze balans tussen werk en plezier zorgt voor een productieve en toch aangename werkomgeving.

In summary, mijn stage bij Folks in Schaarbeek heeft me niet alleen geholpen om mijn professionele vaardigheden te ontwikkelen, maar heeft me ook een dieper inzicht gegeven in de evenementenindustrie. This experience has been invaluable and has solidified my interest in pursuing a career in this dynamic field. Ik zou deze stage zeker aanraden aan andere studenten die op zoek zijn naar een uitdagende en gevarieerde stageplek.

Mijn Stagetijd bij DMC MIMalta: Een Onvergetelijke Ervaring

Een stage bij DMC MIMalta was een super leuke en leerrijke ervaring waarbij ik inzicht kreeg in de werking van een DMC met jarenlange ervaring. De collega’s en vrienden die ik maakte buiten het werk maakte van deze stage een onvergetelijk avontuur!

Ik kreeg de geweldige kans om stage te lopen bij MIMalta, een ervaren Destination Management Company in Malta. Dit avontuur was niet alleen een waardevolle leerervaring, maar ook een periode vol nieuwe vriendschappen en onvergetelijke momenten.

At MIMalta, my daily tasks mainly consisted of administrative support to my colleagues. This meant I was often creating client presentations and managing incoming emails as well as preparing signage for incoming groups. These tasks helped me gain a deeper understanding of business operations and how a DMC operates. In addition, I occasionally got the chance to accompany groups during their stay in Malta. This was a great way to explore the beautiful islands while improving my communication skills.

One of the highlights of my internship was the opportunity to join several lunches at different hotels. These lunches were not only a great way to network, but also gave me a chance to learn about the facilities and services of various hotels in Malta.

Wat het leven in Malta nog aangenamer maakte, was het feit dat mijn collega’s allemaal Maltees waren, maar ook perfect Engels spraken. Dit zorgde ervoor dat er geen taalbarrière was en ik me meteen thuis voelde binnen het team. Hun gastvrijheid en bereidheid om te helpen waren indrukwekkend en gaven me een warm welkom. Ik kreeg hierdoor ook een goed beeld van de Maltese cultuur en van de lekkere Maltese zoetigheden die wekelijks te vinden waren op het kantoor.

Het leven als stagiair in Malta was werkelijk fantastisch. Na het werk en vooral in het weekend was er altijd wel iets leuks te doen. Malta heeft een bruisend sociaal leven met veel evenementen, prachtige stranden, historische sites en een levendig nachtleven.

Another advantage of doing an internship in Malta is the large international student community. It was surprisingly easy to make new friends as there were so many students from different countries.

Mijn tijd als stagaire in het buiteland zal ik niet snel vergeten. Het was een fantastische ervaring die ik iedereen zou aanraden.

This year I had the opportunity to do my internship at Cititravel, one of the leading agencies in the business tourism and events sector in Spain. Cititravel DMC is a Destination Management Company specialized in organizing corporate events such as meetings, incentives, and conferences. The company was elected ‘Spain’s Best MICE Organizer 2023’. During my internship, I worked in the operations department as a Project Assistant. Most of the time, when a company wants to organize an event in Barcelona, the first thing that I had to do is coordinate with local suppliers, including hotels, restaurants, venues, and transportation, to check their availability on the dates that the clients requested. I had to make a proposal, which consist in a PowerPoint presentation with information about ours offers, and a quotation in Excel.

Algunas veces estábamos invitados a nuevos o renovados hoteles con un catering o un desayuno. También nos hacían un tour por todo el hotel, las habitaciones, el restaurante, la piscina, las salas de reuniones y más. Para la empresa es muy importante conocer nuevos lugares para ofrecerlos a los clientes.

During my internship, I was also invited to a cocktail workshop by Dry Martini. In this workshop, they showed us how to make a Passion Fruit Daiquiri cocktail with some snacks. For us, it is very interesting because we can offer these kinds of activities to our clients.

I also attended to different events to make sure that everything ran easily. For example, when we had a bike tour as an activity for the clients, we needed to make sure that they were at the location on time, that the number of bikes is correct, talk to the guides etc. Speaking different languages is very important in this sector. You must be able to speak English, Spanish and French in my office.

Trabajar en Cititravel me ha dado la oportunidad de trabajar con un gran equipo. Cada trabajo que hice, desde coordinar eventos hasta tratar con clientes extranjeros, fue una valiosa experiencia de aprendizaje. Aprendí mucho sobre lo que ofrece la ciudad de Barcelona. Trabajar en este sector es muy diverso y cada día hay algo nuevo que aprender.

Bonjour à tous !

J’ai hâte de partager avec vous l’aventure de mon tout premier stage à l’étranger. C’est encore surréaliste, mais oui, je suis bel et bien partie à Portiragnes, en France, pour une expérience inoubliable en tant qu’assistante de réception à Portiragnes l’Ami Soleil.

Waarom heb ik deze kans gegrepen? Nou, ik wilde simpelweg een nieuwe ervaring opdoen. Het idee om mijn eerste stage in het buitenland te doen, bracht een mengeling van opwinding en zenuwen met zich mee, maar ik wist dat ik deze kans moest grijpen. En hier ben ik dan, midden in een nieuwe omgeving, klaar om alles te omarmen wat op mijn pad komt.

Portiragnes est un charmant village de la côte méditerranéenne, connu pour ses rues pittoresques, son climat chaud et ses belles plages. Le village dégage une atmosphère calme et détendue, ce qui constitue un changement bienvenu par rapport à la vie trépidante de la ville. Le canal du Midi, situé à proximité, et les réserves naturelles protégées offrent d’innombrables possibilités de randonnées pédestres et cyclistes, tandis que les marchés locaux regorgeant de produits frais sont un véritable délice pour tous les gourmands.

Als receptiemedewerker bij Portiragnes l’Ami Soleil had ik een breed scala aan taken. Ik was verantwoordelijk voor het in- en uitchecken van gasten, wat inhield dat ik klanten aanrekende, sleutels afgaf en aannam. Daarnaast beantwoordde ik de telefoon en stond ik altijd klaar om vragen te beantwoorden of problemen op te lossen. Het directe contact met de klanten was misschien wel het meest waardevolle aspect van mijn werk. Het gaf me de kans om mijn talenkennis te verbeteren en mensen van over de hele wereld te ontmoeten.

Gelukkig was de praktische kant van mijn verblijf goed geregeld. Er was ter plaatse wifi beschikbaar, wat het gemakkelijk maakte om contact te houden met familie en vrienden thuis. Bovendien kreeg ik een eigen accommodatie, wat een enorme geruststelling was en me de nodige privacy gaf om te ontspannen na een drukke werkdag.

Bien sûr, il y a eu des défis à relever. Certains jours, je me suis sentie seule, loin de chez moi et de mon environnement familier. Mais heureusement, je n’étais pas seule. Mes merveilleux collègues m’ont aidée à traverser ces moments. Leur soutien et leur amitié ont rendu cette expérience d’autant plus précieuse.

Ce fut une aventure courte mais forte, qui n’a duré que deux mois. Mais pendant cette période, j’ai beaucoup appris, tant sur le plan professionnel que personnel. J’ai perfectionné mes compétences en tant que réceptionniste, découvert de nouvelles cultures et me suis fait des amis pour la vie.

Deze ervaring heeft me laten zien hoe belangrijk het is om uit je comfortzone te stappen. Ja, het is eng. Ja, het is uitdagend. Maar de beloningen zijn onbeschrijfelijk. Door nieuwe ervaringen op te doen, groei je als persoon en ontdek je verborgen krachten die je nooit voor mogelijk had gehouden.

Alors, si vous avez l’occasion de partir à l’étranger pour un stage, un emploi ou même un voyage, saisissez-la à deux mains. Vous serez étonné de ce que vous pouvez accomplir si vous vous mettez au défi et si vous embrassez le monde.

¿Hola, qué tal? ¡Bienvenidos en el Museo del Baile Flamenco!

Dit is een korte blog over mijn stage in het flamencomuseum in Sevilla.

Tot zover mijn Spaans dus. 🙂 Omdat ik ongeveer in het midden van mijn stage zit, lijkt het mij wel een goed idee om eens neer te schrijven hoe het hier verloopt.

Ik loop momenteel stage in het Museo del Baile Flamenco, in Sevilla, en alles draait hier dus om de dansstijl flamenco. Het is trouwens het enige museum over flamenco in de hele wereld! Het is echter niet alleen een museum. Elke dag worden hier minstens drie flamencoshows uitgevoerd door professionele artiesten. Daarnaast kunnen mensen hier ook terecht voor dans- of percussielessen. Hier is dus altijd wel iets te beleven!

Het bedrijf is vrij klein, maar toch lopen er op dit moment 10 studenten stage, waarvan ik er één ben. De stagiaires worden op verschillende plekken ingezet, maar we staan vooral aan de receptie of in de winkel en soms ook in de bar. Heel af en toe krijgen we ook persoonlijke projecten zoals een rondleiding geven of de show presenteren. De receptie vind ik het leukste, omdat daar het meeste beweging is en dus ook het meest te doen valt, zoals reservaties maken en tickets verkopen voor de show, mensen de weg naar het museum tonen en iedereen met vragen zo goed mogelijk te woord staan.

Here, it is important to have a good command of several languages, because you are in direct contact with visitors and not all of them speak Spanish. There are a lot of French people, so I have been able to practise my French a lot, but of course you also speak English a lot. I like speaking these different languages, because you can see that the visitors really appreciate it. But ofcourse in this company, Spanish is the main spoken language and that is the most difficult part of my internship. Everyone on the team speaks Spanish and will also speak Spanish to you. Also people with deliveries, artists or guides will always address you in Spanish, so it is important that you understand and speak Spanish. In the beginning it was almost impossible for me, because I couldn’t speak Spanish at all. My confidence has grown in these four weeks, though. I improved already a lot! I still remember the first day I came here, I spent all morning looking up phrases in Spanish on Google Translate so I knew what to say at the entrance: ‘Soy una practicante de Belgica’, and so my adventure started. Luckily now, I don’t need to do that anymore. 🙂

For me, the Spanish language at my internship is both a curse and a blessing. A curse, because I find it harder to make connections with colleagues. I often cannot follow along with conversations or have really long or in-depth conversations in Spanish myself. It is also very stressful that I don’t master the language very well, it can make me very nervous. On the other hand, it is a blessing, because I do think that my Spanish has already improved enormously in those 4 weeks I have been working here. Besides, I think the Spanish language actually makes the internship challenging. Had I been able to speak Spanish perfectly, I have the feeling that this internship position might not have been challenging enough because we have to do a lot of the same things (sitting in reception or standing in the shop).

Momenteel ben ik wel tevreden over mijn stageplek. Ik vind het bijvoorbeeld heel leuk dat er veel verschillende (internationale) studenten zijn. Zo leer je snel nieuwe mensen kennen van jouw leeftijd. Het team is ook erg lief en betrokken. Ze tonen veel appreciatie naar de stagiaires toe en dat vind ik echt positief. Soms kan het werk gewoon echt saai zijn, omdat er niet altijd veel mensen het museum bezoeken of omdat er niet constant mensen iets kopen in de winkel. Dat maakt wel dat het lange dagen zijn. Gelukkig heb ik naast het werk ook nog tijd om Sevilla te ontdekken en te genieten van het zonnetje! 🙂

Kos Chronicles: A Tale of TUI’s Hotel Rep Internship Abroad

Hey heyyy, would you like to know more about how my internship as a hotel rep at TUI went? Then you are in the right place here! I would like to take you on my adventure at TUI abroad.

Mijn avontuur begon op 29 april op het prachtige eiland Kos. Bij aankomst werd ik hartelijk verwelkomd door mijn manager, die me vervolgens naar mijn accommodatie in Kardamena bracht. De eerste dag had ik even de tijd om mijn spullen uit te pakken en mijn omgeving te verkennen. In de daaropvolgende dagen moest ik op kantoor mijn benodigdheden ophalen en begon mijn stage echt.

The first two weeks were all about getting to know the excursions that TUI offers. This was meant to make it easier to sell these to guests later. This secretly gave me a bit of a holiday feeling. Besides participating in excursions, I shadowed my colleagues to see how everything worked and to learn as much as possible.

After my training was done, the real work began. But unexpectedly, I was moved to another team. Originally, I was assigned to a team in Kardamena, but because few Dutch and Belgian guests go there, TUI and I decided it would be more beneficial if I moved to Kos city and joined the team there.

Bij TUI word je als stagiair behandeld als een volwaardige werknemer, wat ik erg fijn vond. Je krijgt hier de kans om te groeien en jezelf te ontwikkelen. Bovendien zijn mijn collega’s ontzettend leuk en behulpzaam, wat de ervaring ook nog beter maakte.

Naast het werk had ik ook de gelegenheid om het eiland te verkennen, nieuwe vrienden te maken en te genieten van de Griekse cultuur en gastvrijheid. Het was een onvergetelijke ervaring die ik iedereen zou aanraden. Of je nu stage loopt of gewoon nieuwsgierig bent naar werken in het buitenland, TUI biedt een geweldige kans om jezelf uit te dagen en nieuwe vaardigheden te ontwikkelen.

In other words, if you are thinking about doing an internship abroad, I can highly recommend TUI. It’s an adventure you won’t quickly forget!

Een Duikje in de Reiswereld met TUI Leuven

Heyyy there! Are you curious about my experiences during my internship at TUI Leuven? Then this is the place to be! Let me take you to a world full of travel, customer service and a warm team.

TUI Leuven ligt op enkele meters van de grote markt, wat betekent dat je stage loopt in het kloppend hart van deze bruisende stad. Voor mij voelde dat als een ware privilege. Bereikbaarheid is geen issue, en na een dag werken kun je gemakkelijk nog even de stad in voor een drankje of een hapje, vooral als het weer meezit 😉

From day one you are considered a valuable member of the team at TUI Leuven, not just a “trainee”. The colleagues here are incredibly friendly and supportive. Besides work, there is always room for a small talk.

In het begin van mijn stage waren mijn taken vooral gericht op administratief werk, zoals het versturen van reisdocumenten naar klanten, het beantwoorden van e-mails en telefoontjes, en het verwelkomen van klantjes aan de balie. Daarnaast kreeg ik de kans om mee te kijken met verkoopgesprekken tussen mijn collega’s en klanten. Een hoogtepunt waar ik naar uitkeek was het moment waarop ik zelf boekingen mocht maken. Maar eerst moest ik oefenen om de systemen onder de knie te krijgen. Naarmate je meer vertrouwd raakt met de systemen, krijg je ook de kans om echt in de verkoop te gaan zitten en klanten te helpen bij het plannen van hun droomreis. Dit was voor mij persoonlijk het leukste en uitdagendste onderdeel van mijn stage.

Obviously, working in retail has its ups and downs. On one hand, you enjoy the direct contact with customers and being able to put together their ideal trip together. On the other hand, you sometimes encounter demanding customers who test your patience, either face to face or on the phone. But with the support of my colleagues, I learned to deal with this and grew as a professional.

Nu, aan het einde van mijn vijfde week, kan ik met zekerheid zeggen dat ik hier een geweldige tijd heb gehad. De sfeer is fantastisch, de collega’s zijn warm en gastvrij, en het werk is uitdagend en boeiend, vooral als je graag met mensen werkt.

Altogether, my internship at TUI Leuven was an unforgettable experience that has only increased my passion for the Travel Industry. I am grateful for the opportunities I have been given here and look forward to what the future will bring me.

How I accidentally had the best work experience of my life.

When I first set out to look for an internship for Tourism- and Recreation Management, I knew it was gonna be a hard task. Not because I had no clue where my passions laid, rather because I am naturally curious about a whole heap of subjects…

I love science, for one. I adore learning about new cultures. I’m passionate about our climate, and nature as a whole. I read at least a book a week, I love to go fossil hunting, and honestly, I could keep naming interests in perpetuity.

When a position as a guide for whale spotting tours in the Azores was mentioned, my interest was immediately piqued. Surely, this was everything I ever dreamed of in an internship. But it wasn’t meant to be, for they couldn’t offer me an internship as fall was rapidly approaching. Which would put us outside whale spotting season.

Maar toen, terloops na een les, liet Mevr. Chris Desmet de naam ‘Trage Wegen’ vallen. Een kleine vzw in het Gentse, die zich bekommert om de Vlaamse trage wegen (autoluwe of autoloze paden). Ik was natuurlijk niet razend enthousiast, immers heb je bij Toerisme- en Recreatiemanagement de unieke kans om de hele wereld te verkennen met je stage. Wie zou er nu in godsnaam in België willen blijven? Een kennismakingsgesprek met de gepassioneerde werknemers van Trage Wegen stookte toch een klein vuurtje onder mijn pruttelend enthousiasme. Wanneer ik uiteindelijk ja zei, dacht ik opgetogen dat ik een redelijk toffe tijd tegemoet ging.

But in reality, I stood in front of a 4-month adventure. Trage Wegen is perhaps, not the most exiting of organisations. Ghent isn’t a very exotic location either. And yet, together they offer one of the best internships. Instead of teaching me how a small TO in Thailand operates, it thought me to hone my journalistic skills acquired in Media Lab, as I got the chance to interview their volunteers across the country. Instead of teaching me the inner working of an airport, it thought me to believe in myself, as they nudged me to explore my interests, and try my hand at a heap of different tasks. Like translating a document van het Nederlands, au français, and to English. Ich konnte sogar ein bisschen Deutsch anwenden. Româna mea, nu am folosit-o. Nu e prea bună.

Or using Adobe Illustrator, a program I barely had any experience with, to make the illustration for their annual newsletter. Or giving me the chance to work on a massive packrafting project spanning from the Meuse to the Yser. They even used my hobbystic photography for reports, interviews, and social media, until it was turned into a professional skill.

Maar bovenal zal je bij Trage Wegen losgelaten worden om jezelf leren kennen. Jouw passies worden er jouw taken. De Azoren zijn een prachtig gebied, maar ik had er nooit of te nimmer zoveel kunnen leren, zoveel kunnen groeien, als bij Trage Wegen.

Hola y Bienvenidos bij Barcelonatips!

Wat kan je meer willen dan zon, lekker eten en drinken, een atmosfeer van vrolijkheid, feesten, musea en talloze door UNESCO beschermde plaatsen? Barcelona heeft het allemaal! Voeg daar een superleuke stage aan toe, en het is gegarandeerd dat de 16 weken gewoon voorbijvliegen! ✈️

Het is eindelijk zover! Mijn laatste keuze voor mijn schoolcarrière aan de Erasmushogeschool. Ook de grootste en moeilijkste keuze… waar ga ik stagelopen? Binnenlands of buitenlands? Durf ik het aan, of blijf ik in mijn comfortzone? You know what! Gewoon doen! September komt eraan en Hola Barcelona! ??

Ici chez Barcelonatips, nous sommes vite plongé dans le travail. Bien évidemment, l’équipe t’explique les règles de base et le travail à réaliser. Ensuite, c’est à toi de jouer ! D’une part, ce qui est rassurant, c’est que, j’ai été accueillie par deux autres stagiaires qui étaient déjà présentes. D’autre part, poser des questions ici (même 1000) est totalement accepté et même encouragé! Cela a rendu mon travail beaucoup plus facile. Être autonome et avoir des responsabilités m’ont beaucoup aidés ! Il n’y a rien de plus satisfaisant que de poster son premier article sur le blog ou de poster son premier réel, et se dire que c’est toi qui l’as entièrement fait !

Mijn werk bestaat uit het schrijven van artikelen en het creëren van reels op Instagram, maar ook uit het beantwoorden van berichten van onze lezers en het beheren van fietsboekingen in het programma. Daarnaast vertrouwt Annebeth, de baas, me vaak kleine taken toe, zoals het maken van een programma op canva voor groepen of het maken van de agenda voor het weekend. Maar mijn favoriete deel van het werk is dat we musea, parken en tentoonstellingen mogen bezoeken of een fietstochtje mogen maken door een willekeurig deel van de stad om daar een video van te maken. Dat maakt het werk leuker dan voortdurend achter je scherm te zitten!

Grâce à mon travail, j’ai pu découvrir Barcelone sous toutes ses facettes ! Par conséquent, mon conseil à tous ceux qui hésitent à faire un stage à l’étranger est le suivant : FAITES-LE ! C’est une expérience unique qui restera gravée dans votre mémoire et qui vous permettra d’en apprendre beaucoup sur vous-même et sur vos compétences.

A Journey of Adventure, Insight, and Cultural Immersion with Eco Khaolak Adventure.

I had the opportunity to spend four months in Thailand and intern at the company Eco Khaolak Adventure. My internship was not only an educational period but also a plunge into Thai culture.

Eco Khaolak Adventure is a company that offers excursions in the Khao Lak region, located in Thailand. The company was founded to provide travelers with a unique experience in this beautiful natural environment. The excursions are diverse, educational, and adventurous, carried out with respect for nature and culture.

I began my internship by participating in all the excursions offered by the company. I consistently provided suggestions on how to improve their tours, including ecological aspects. I am very grateful for the opportunity to see the beautiful surroundings through this experience.

The Elephant Sanctuary.

A highlight of my internship was undoubtedly my involvement with the elephant sanctuary. I delved into understanding how tourists can interact with elephants in a responsible manner. While guiding, I informed tourists about the importance of promoting responsible tourism, where the well-being of elephants is paramount. I gained insight into the relationship between the elephant caretaker, also known as mahouts, and the elephant. Their dedication to elephant care deeply inspired me.

This concludes my adventure with Eco Khaolak Adventure. This period did not feel like just an internship; it was a life experience that I will never forget. Thailand, with its beautiful nature and friendly people, will always hold a special place in my heart. Through my internship with Eco Khaolak Adventure, I have not only grown personally but have also strengthened my love for travel and exploring the world.
