Als student kijk je altijd uit naar het einde van het schooljaar. Niet alleen omdat je nu 3 maand kan genieten van een welverdiende rust maar omdat je op reis kan gaan. De keuze is meestal snel gemaakt. Bali, Tenerife, Portugal. Zolang de zon maar schijnt en de cocktails fris staan. Een optie die echter veel overkeken wordt zijn cruises. Deze drijvende paleizen zijn het walhalla van luxe. Je vindt er restaurants van over de hele wereld, state of the art entertainment en dit allemaal terwijl je van de ene prachtige bestemming naar de andere vaart. De stage bij Cruises is een ervaring die me m’n hele leven zal bijblijven. Want niets kan tippen aan die eerst keer dat je een cruise vanuit de verte ziet verschijnen.
A typical day at the HQ of Thomas Cook starts at 9 am.
We start up our computers, get a cup of coffee and get to work.
This one day wasn’t a typical day at the office though. It was something completely else. I had the opportunity to visit my very first cruise ship.
The Serenade of the Seas. A ship that I thought was massive but appeared to be only a smaller vessel in comparison to other cruise ships.
While normally we eat lunch in a half an hour, this time we were treated like kings and queens. After holding the menu for 5 seconds I wasn’t able to do anything else but stare at this one specific sentence: “Shrimp and Mushroom Alfredo Fettuccini with Parmesan Cream Sauce.”
Once back at the the office I immediately started to make a selection of photos which I was going to use during my presentation of the ship. It’s a must for the entire team to know the strengths and weaknesses of each vessel and shipping company. With this knowledge they can advise and help the clients with their needs as good as can be.
Kortom, het wiel hoeft niet opnieuw uitgevonden te worden. Cruises heeft in de loop der tijd zeker al zijn ups en downs gehad. Een belangrijke factor was het bevechten van de vooroordelen maar de cruises hebben gewonnen. Deze prachtige pareltjes zijn bezig aan een opmars en zullen zich door niemand laten stoppen.
