For eight weeks, I’m doing an internship at Trage Wegen Vzw. This is a recognized environmental organisation that advocates for all slow roads in Flanders. That might still sound a bit vague to you – it certainly did to me at first – but it immediately sparked my interest. Now that I’m already halfway through my internship, I have a much clearer picture of what goes on at Trage Wegen Vzw. In this blog, I’d like to give you a glimpse into my internship experience.
Throughout the internship, I’m shadowing Hanne. She has various responsibilities within the organisation, which allows me to get involved in different types of projects. From the start, I was included in the “Mobimaatwerkers” project in Oosterzele. In this project, we conduct research on local mobility and explore how to encourage residents to choose bicycles more often for functional trips (instead of using their cars). I attended online meetings with the municipality and participated in neighborhood research. This allowed us to experience firsthand how mobility is functioning in Oosterzele, and we spoke to residents to gather their opinions. Soon, we’ll be organizing a focus group with local residents and the municipality to explore this topic more deeply. So, I was able to go out into the field, but I also worked on this project from the office – for example, by processing interview data and mapping it out on a geographic map.
En plus de cela, j’ai déjà eu l’occasion de participer au lancement de l’inventaire des chemins lents à Gistel, à une journée d’inspiration sur la mobilité durable, ainsi qu’à une promenade le long de l’Escaut. Comme vous pouvez le constater, le stage est très varié ! Bien sûr, il y a aussi de nombreuses journées que je passe au bureau, où je travaille sur des tâches plus petites comme créer publications pour les réseaux sociaux, la rédaction de blogs ou la participation à des réunions avec différents groupes de travail. Je peux également contribuer à la campagne pour la Semaine de la Mobilité. Ce sont tous des projets que je soutiens personnellement, ce qui m’aide énormément à commencer chaque journée de stage avec motivation.
Comme vous l’avez peut-être deviné, ce stage est pour moi une très belle opportunité. Je viens chaque jour avec plaisir, et toutes les personnes qui travaillent ici sont super sympathiques et toujours prêtes à m’aider. Je recommanderais donc sans hésiter ce lieu à toute personne à la recherche d’un stage actif, varié, et axé sur des projets durables et socialement pertinents.
Bientôt aura également lieu “De Dag van de Trage Weg”, une campagne qui se déroule chaque année en octobre. Je travaille aussi dans les coulisses sur cet événement (comme la mise à jour du site web, par exemple). Par la présente, j’invite tout le monde à participer à une activité organisée près de chez vous !
