This year I was able to join the International Office team. This team works a lot behind the sc(re)enes for the students who leave on foreign internships or go study abroad, but also for foreigners who come join us!
The wonder-team.
The International Office team, or IO for short, consists of 5 members: Annelore, Marieke, Emma, Hilde and Johan. Johan will retire at the end of this schoolyear.
To summarize briefly, they are responsible for the so-called ‘Welcome days’ (I’ll tell you more about it later) and giving them the most recent information about visas, appointments, paper ect, which is quite a lot of work because they have to keep up with all the latest information to enter every country. Takenpakket
In het begin wist het team niet goed wat ze mij als takenpakket gingen geven, omdat ze voor de eerste keer, met open armen, een Toerisme- en recreatiemanagement stagiaire in hun team verwelkomden.
Al snel werd ik in verschillende projecten geïntegreerd, ik wist niet altijd wat het inhield maar het was het proberen waard. Zo heb ik ook elk teamlid individueel ontmoet… via een scherm. Want ja, in tijden van corona mochten we niet naar het bureau, tenzij het om een geldige reden ging.
Mijn taken waren zeer gevarieerd. Ik mocht een affiche creëren om studenten en het personeel te sensibiliseren voor duurzaamheid, vijf internationale projecten samenvatten die binnenkort ook op de EhB-site komen, PowerPoint maken e.d.
Een andere grote taak was de Welcome Days voorbereiden. Dit deed ik samen met Emma. We spreken over ‘Days’ omdat het op twee dagen gebeurt, net voor de start van het academiejaar. We zijn eerst op zoek gegaan naar de personen die vorig jaar een presentatie zijn komen geven en gevraagd of ze het dit jaar opnieuw willen doen. We hebben ook nagedacht over een ijsbreker-spel, dit zorgt ervoor dat als de inkomende studenten toekomen op de afspraak dat de spanning er snel vanaf is. De bedoeling is dat ze met elkaar praten om zo een netwerk op te bouwen en een gesprek voeren met elkaar. Dit was zeer leuk om dit met haar te organiseren.
Who said you can’t organize an event?
Miraculously, I was also allowed to attend an event in April! Together with Marieke and Saar, I was allowed to organise ‘Brussels Lab’. The aim of this was to make teachers and staff look at Brussels with a more open mind. First, we gave a short presentation on ‘Brussels and figures’, followed by what the participants thought of Brussels. Finally, I was allowed to visit a neighbourhood with a group. We had the choice between Matongé, Marolles or Anderlecht. I visited Matongé and Anderlecht! Very nice!
Finally, what I take away from this internship is that I now know what I am good at and what I still need to work on. It is certainly a team and an internship that I will never forget.
