First of all, I have to tell you this was probably the best internship I ever had. Every prejudice disappeared as soon as I started on the first day at Visit Flanders in Brussels. As the adventure is coming to an end, I’m actually very sad to leave.
Al vanaf het begin van mijn studie was het voor mij heel duidelijk dat ik stage wou lopen bij Toerisme Vlaanderen. Ik kwam terecht bij de dienst bestemmingspromotie en dan specifieker bij de afdeling Internationale Markten. Ik werd verantwoordelijk voor de organisatie van pers- en trade reizen waarbij we in nauw contact staan met onze buitenlandkantoren. Kortom een perfecte combinatie om in een internationale context te werken vanuit Vlaanderen.
Een van de grootste pluspunten van de stage: de collega’s. Ongelooflijk veel toffe persoonlijkheden onder 1 dak waarbij je je (inter)nationale kennis enorm kan uitbreiden. Omdat er op heel veel verschillende markten gewerkt wordt, kan iedereen je wat bijbrengen. Daarnaast kan je je talen goed benutten als je communiceert met collega’s in het buitenland.
My personal highlight of the internship was definitely when I had to organize a Scandinavian press trip dedicated to the Flemish cuisine for 4 bloggers. As a foodie myself, I was over the moon when my manager asked me to arrange this trip. The program included restaurant visits, cocktail workshops, guided food tours and many tastings. To top it all off, I was allowed to accompany the bloggers. Yeah! One of the bloggers was also a photographer, big plus as I got all the pictures he took as a reminder.
Don’t get me wrong. There is a lot of work behind the scenes too with accounting duties, invoices, suppliers, mailings and phone calls. Apart from this trip, I also had to organize other trips. But all of them taught me some new insights and gave me valuable information.
I would recommend to set your goals as high as possible. These past 5 months have flown by and working for Visit Flanders has brought me nothing but joy!
