Heya! This blog is about my internship at Galicia Jewish Museum and life in Krakow.
Since the beginning of March I’m working as an intern in Galicia Jewish Museum in Krakow, Poland. The museum focuses on Jewish heritage, Jewish past and present in southern Poland and possible ways of understanding, interpreting and remembering Jewish history and culture.
I work here as a guide and a receptionist. After almost four months, I still haven’t decided what I like the most. Working at reception is so much fun because you meet so many different people from all over the world. They all have their personal reasons to visit the museum. Sometimes they have Jewish or Polish family that lived in Galicia and want to learn more about their life. And sometimes they’re just visiting the museum because it’s raining outside 😉 .
If you are broke and want to go on a citytrip I definitely recommend Krakow! Everything is so cheap here! You can go to a nice restaurant and have drinks, dinner and dessert for about 10 – 15 euros! And most importantly, you can get delicious vodka shots for less than one euro!
During my internship I have discovered that my great grandmother was Jewish. The entry line into Jewishness is through the mother. This means that a child of a Jewish mother is Jewish. It’s a bit weird because I don’t practice Judaism but I’m still allowed to say that I’m Jewish. That makes me a young Jewess now and I will continue this blogpost in Yiddish, the language spoken by 3 millions Jews over the whole world 🙂
איך טאָן ניט וויסן אַ פּלאַץ וועגן רעליגיאָנס. אין ערשטיק שולע, איך גענומען עטיק קלאסן. שפּעטער איך געגאנגען צו אַ קאַטהאָליק הויך שולע אַזוי איך געהאט קאַטהאָליק קלאסן. איך לייקט עס ווייַל פון אַלע די לאַנג געשיכטע די לערער לייענען אונדז אין קלאַס. איך לייקט עס ווייַל אַלע די מעשיות שטענדיק האָבן אַ טיף טייַטש און מאָראַליש צו זיי. אַזוי איך געלערנט אַ פּלאַץ וועגן יידיאַם דאָ און איך בין טאַקע דאַנקבאַר פֿאַר וואָס. צוזאַמען מיט די אנדערע ינטערנז, מיר געמאכט אַ שטאָט רייַזע וועגן די פאַרשידענע אַספּעקץ פון ליבע אין יידישקייַט. וואָס איז טאַקע שפּאַס!
