Toen ik van de stageco\u00f6rdinator te horen kreeg dat ik stage zou lopen bij\nhet bedrijf dat mijn eerste keuze was, was ik natuurlijk z\u00e9\u00e9r tevreden.\nZuiderhuis is namelijk een gerenommeerd reisbureau en dit kunnen tentoonstellen\nop mijn CV voor latere sollicitaties is natuurlijk een enorme meerwaarde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Door de dolle extase die dit met zich meebracht, dacht ik er natuurlijk\nniet aan wat een uitdaging dit zou worden. Ik had er namelijk niet op gerekend\ndat ik 5 dagen op 7, elke dag, om 6 uur \u2019s ochtends moest opstaan om, als het\nopenbaar verkeer het toeliet, op tijd aan te komen op de stageplaats. De weg\nterug naar huis bleek echter nog een grotere uitdaging. Zoals iedereen in\nBelgi\u00eb wel weet staat het openbaar vervoer, met name NMBS en De Lijn, niet\nbekend om haar stiptheid en punctualiteit. Dit zorgde ervoor dat ik op sommige\navonden pas na 22 uur \u2019s avonds terug thuis was. Over een lange werkdag gesproken\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Even though\neverything I wrote up until now is nowhere near inviting or motivating, the\ninternship itself is not so bad at all. In fact, it is an incredibly fun and\neducative experience. Every day is different. The costumers I deal with are\neither very nice and friendly people, whilst you\u2019d wish you could just flick\nyour middle finger and hang up the phone when it comes to the other type of costumer.\nTo make it more understandable for people who know a thing or two about modern\npop-culture: imagine the types of customers being either Samwell Tarly or King\nJoffrey Baratheon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The atmosphere at work can best be described as the atmosphere seen during the first meeting of the small council after the murder of Daenerys of the House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons: fun and informal, with the occasional moment of seriousness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The tasks I carry out are quite important. I serve as the first point of\ncontact between both local agents and customers when it concerns a reservation\nor inquiry. I make sure client files are complete and follow up on payments. As\nsoon as the reservation is done, the payment has come through and all\non-destination arrangements are made, I am responsible for sending the travel\ndocuments to our customers. Without these documents they won\u2019t be able to enjoy\ntheir holiday to the fullest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ultimately,\nI conquered all the struggles this internship brought with it – the incredibly\nearly mornings, exhaustingly long days, the different types of costumers that I\nhad to deal with and having no time to myself outside of the dull train-and bus\nrides for 8 weeks. I managed to adapt to the way things work around the company\nand felt like a worthy asset to the team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
