Working as a hotel rep for TUI in Crete has been an intense and interesting experience. I’m part of the BENE-team, which means Belgium and Netherlands, and our group is smaller compared to the bigger German or English teams. This makes the work environment more friendly and relaxed and you get to know your colleagues well. Because we have fewer arrivals and they are spread out over time, not like the big groups of the German or English markets, our job requires more flexibility. We also cover more hotels, which makes it more challenging but also more rewarding. You really feel you can help guests on a personal level because you assist smaller groups at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n

Pendant mes jours de cong\u00e9, je peux aussi utiliser ma voiture de fonction pour explorer l\u2019\u00eele, et j\u2019ai pu d\u00e9couvrir vraiment beaucoup de la culture, la nature, l\u2019histoire et les traditions locales de la Cr\u00e8te. C\u2019est important parce qu\u2019on attend de toi que tu connaisses bien l\u2019\u00eele pour pouvoir conseiller les excursions aux clients. La vente d\u2019excursions fait partie int\u00e9grante du travail, et tu doit m\u00eame participer \u00e0 certaines, ce qui aide aussi \u00e0 cr\u00e9er de bonnes relations avec les fournisseurs. Le travail est vari\u00e9 et intense : il y a des moments calmes mais aussi des p\u00e9riodes tr\u00e8s charg\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n

Le temps libre est limit\u00e9, g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement un jour et demi par semaine, souvent divis\u00e9. Le poste demande beaucoup de responsabilit\u00e9 et de caract\u00e8re, mais il est rassurant de savoir que la grande \u00e9quipe, le ‘back office’ et les managers sont toujours l\u00e0 pour te soutenir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You meet all kinds of guests and co-workers. Some guests are organized and easy, others forget their brain at home and need all kinds of basic info given to them repeatedly. Over these three months, I\u2019ve experienced many funny and bizarre moments you wouldn\u2019t see anywhere else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The package travel and mass tourism sector has its flaws, but working here taught me a lot about service, systems, teamwork, and hierarchy. This internship is not for people who need structure and routine. If you like changing environments and can handle uncertainty, this job is definitely for you. You really get to help people and that brings a lot of satisfaction, especially when you know you made a difference yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n

I want to gain different experiences in the tourism sector for now, but I will keep this job in the back of my mind. It teaches valuable skills like flexibility, responsibility, and working with many different kinds of people. The role is demanding as well as rewarding.<\/p>\n\n\n

This experience will definitely stick with me for the rest of my life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
