Ik ben Lander Tiels, derdejaarsstudent Toerisme- en recreatiemanagement aan de Erasmushogeschool Brussel. In de zoektocht naar mijn derdejaars stage ging ik echt op zoek naar iets wat me heel erg interesseert, aangezien dit toch mijn laatste stage ooit zou worden. Van kinds af aan ben ik gefascineerd door luchtvaart en de techniek achter vliegtuigen, als de ik de functie van Turnaround co\u00f6rdinator bij Aviapartner zag staan dacht ik direct: \u201cdeze stageplek moet ik krijgen!\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Op 4 maart begon ik er dan aan, mijn stage bij Aviapartner. De eerste twee weken van de stage gingen door in een klaslokaal in de vorm van een opleiding. De opleiding ging elke dag door van 8u-16u, dit bestond uit testjes en uren van uitleg. Vermoeiend maar heel interessant! Op het einde van de opleiding was er dan een grote test die bestond uit verschillende delen, praktijk van het papierwerk en vragen over de job. De testen bepaalden dat ik klaar was voor eindelijk naar buiten te gaan! De eerste maand bestond eruit dat we als stagiaires meeliepen met ervaren turnaround co\u00f6rdinators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After that, it was time to start on my own. Nervous I drove to my first flight, questioning myself if I was really ready for it. It was a gloomy and rainy Friday morning. I was given the task to coordinate the turnaround of the Danair flight from and to Bacau, Romania. Everything went super well on this first flight. I got the plane ready in time and all passengers and luggage were ready to leave for Romania. The success of the first flight gave me the confidence to coordinate many more to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The job of turnaround coordinator consists of coordinating every aspect of a turnaround of a plane. From the deboarding and boarding to the loading and paper work. The way you deal with a turnaround is airline specific. Every airline has other rules and paperwork, that makes the work interesting and variated. No day is the same at the airport, every day you see something new. That\u2019s what keeps you on your toes as a turnaround coordinator. You come across so many different difficult situations where you have to make quick decisions. As a turnaround coordinator you are required to make split second decisions and you can handle a great workload and stress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now you are thinking: \u201cwhat makes it worth it,\u201d. The feeling when you get a plane ready in time feels so satisfying and makes you feel proud. Also, the views from tarmac are stunning. Here you can see the best sunrises and sunsets. Of course, there are also the snacks and chocolates the flight crews gives you as a present for your hard work ?.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
