Now it’s your turn to transmit that information to your loadcontroller.

Hi! My name is Nikola, and I’ll show you what kind of responsibilities and tasks a turnaround coordinator (TRC) carries during the time interval of an airplane arriving (on its stand) and leaving (getting pushed off-block) again for its next destination. We call this time interval a turnaround.

By the way, our job would not be so exciting, if a turnaround would always go smoothly, there’s always a something that will keep you busy. That’s the moment where the stage is all yours, because you are the one who needs to get it done.

Don’t worry, you are not the one in charge for fixing the engine if it is damaged. If a passenger is feeling sick, you don’t have to take care of them. If someone is showing signs of aggressiveness, you don’t have to calm them. What you need to do is give the appropriate party a call and explain the situation. Communication is key to for a smooth operation. A good TRC knows and is aware of what is happening during a turnaround.

Besides reporting the delay, you are responsible of reporting the fuel and the baggage to your loadcontroller. Then based on your info, the loadcontrol makes a loadsheet, an official document for the captain. This document provides information about the state of the aircraft. This means, by looking at the loadsheet, the captain knows exactly how many passengers are on board, how much fuel does the aircraft have, what is the total weight of the baggage and the cargo loaded in holds etc.

This is of course just a rough and quick sketch of what this job involves. Reporting the fuel and the baggage is the main task of a turnaround coordinator, but trust me, every turnaround process is like a box of chocolate, you never know what you’re going to get. Every flight is different and that makes it exciting, special and full of surprises.
